KITCHEN MAKEOVER IN A HISTORIC DISTRICT

This residential kitchen makeover by OMG Kitchen & Bath Remodeling took place in Monticello Park, a historic district located in San Antonio, TX.  Our client’s home was built back in 1939, and designed by a well known architect by the name of Nathan Straus Nayfach. A contemporary kitchen design was applied to the kitchen of a historic home.

Before Kitchen Remodel

The previous kitchen had a vintage backsplash style composed of yellow and green colored tile. The old countertops had an array of small white hexagon shaped tile. Kitchen cabinets were base white with brushed nickel door pulls, with the top hanging kitchen cabinets having a crown molding.  The vent hood spanned from the kitchen stove to the kitchen wall. A single centered overhead light fixture was the main light source, while a kitchen window allowed in ambient light from the kitchen sink area. Flooring tile consisted of a 2′ x 2′ brown stone or mable colored pattern that connected the kitchen with other rooms.

After Kitchen Remodel

This kitchen has been brought into the 21st century, while preserving some of the original design such as the arched doorways, arched ceiling, and cabinet crown moulding. The kitchen cabinet and walls are base white which helps to highlight other colors coming from the tile backsplash or chic decor, as well as enhancing the natural ambient light coming thru the window. A blue elongated hexagon tile backsplash lines the wall of the sink and stove area. A neutral dark gray quartz countertop also helps with the overall color scheme of this kitchen re-design. A ceramic undermounted barn sink offers more space than the traditional top mounted double basin sink. The flooring tile has been replaced with a ceramic kings star pattern which connect to other rooms.

The ceramic tile pattern known as “Kings Star” runs throughout the kitchen and connects to other rooms.
